March 15, 2019 - Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation Announces $1,068,489 in Grants to 28 Organizations.

March 15, 2019 - Sisters of Mercy of North Carolina Foundation announces grant awards totaling $1,068,489 to 28 non-profit organizations.  Of the 28 grants, 13 were in the area of education totaling $483,439; 9 went to social services for a total of $333,900; the remaining 6 were health care  related totaling $251,150. 

The organizations that received grants are located in the following nine counties: Buncombe, Caldwell, Gaston, Jackson, Mecklenburg, Rutherford, Union, and Watauga Counties in North Carolina and York County in South Carolina.

The following organizations received awards this cycle.

Education

Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College, Asheville, NC was awarded $50,000 to support the Skills Training Employment Program, specifically, a portion of the Education Navigator salary and miscellaneous participant expenses.

Charlotte Speech and Hearing Center, Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 in operating support for the Community Language/Literacy Impact Program.

Eliada Homes, Inc., Asheville, NC was awarded $50,000 to support the Eliada Students Training for Advancement Program, specifically, the salaries of the Program Director

and the Academic/Career Connections Specialist.

Gaston Literacy Council, Inc., Gastonia, NC was awarded $22,464 to provide salaries for an ESL instructor and an intake/eligibility specialist.

KIPP Charlotte, Charlotte, NC was awarded $30,000 in operating support for the KIPP Through College Program.

OurBRIDGE, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $25,000 to support the salaries of tutors and meal costs.

Reach Out and Read, Sylva, NC was awarded $25,000 to provide salary support for a Program Specialist as well as books for program distribution.

Right Moves For Youth, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $40,000 to provide salary support for a program specialist.

Rock Hill School District Three, Rock Hill, SC was awarded $36,975 in salary support for a bilingual parent educator.

The Learning Collaborative, Charlotte, NC was awarded $30,000 to support the Family School Readiness program.

Verner Center for Early Learning, Asheville, NC was awarded $34,000 to provide salary support for the Early Childhood Development Specialist and to support teachers in Pre-K classrooms.

YMCA of Greater Charlotte, Charlotte, NC was awarded $45,000 in salary support for the Y Achievers Program.

YWCA of the Central Carolinas, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $45,000 in salary support for the Youth Program's Family Support Coordinator.

Social Services

A Child's Place of Charlotte, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 in salary support for the Community Response Team social workers.

Charlotte Center for Urban Ministry, Charlotte, NC was awarded $50,000 in salary support for the Outreach and Engagement Team.

Charlotte Family Housing, Charlotte, NC was awarded $40,000 in salary support for the social work personnel.

Children's Attention Home, Inc., Rock Hill, SC was awarded $38,900 to provide salary support for a Second Shift Supervisor.

Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley, Hickory, NC was awarded $25,000 to support the cost of construction materials and equipment for Habitat Repairs!.

Thompson Child & Family Focus, Matthews, NC was awarded $40,000 to provide salary support for a Family Partner.

With Friends, Inc., Gastonia, NC was awarded $25,000 in salary support for an additional youth worker.

Yokefellow Service Center, Spindale, NC was awarded $25,000 to provide crisis assistance for Rutherford County citizens in need.

York County Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse, Inc. Rock Hill, SC was awarded $40,000 in salary support for the adolescent peer support specialist.

Health Care

All Souls Counseling Center, Asheville, NC was awarded $45,000 to provide operating support, specifically, contractual therapist fees.

Charlotte Community Health Clinic, Inc., Charlotte, NC was awarded $52,000 to provide salary support for a triage nurse.

Community Care Clinic, Boone, NC was awarded $29,150 to provide salary support for one full-time Mid-level/Advanced Care Provider.         

Community Health Services of Union County, Monroe, NC was awarded $45,000 in salary support of a diabetes educator.

Helping Hands Clinic of Caldwell County, Lenoir, NC was awarded $40,000 to provide operating support, specifically, the contractual salaries of medical providers.

The Hunger and Health Coalition, Inc., Boone, NC was awarded $40,000 to support the Free Pharmacy Program, specifically, the purchase of generic medication and a portion of the salary for a Pharmacy Technician.
